The Victorian
coast, which is broadly defined to include land and inland waters
within the coastal catchment and the sea and seabed to the State
limit of 3 nautical miles.

· To undertake statewide strategic coastal planning
· To prepare and submit to the Minister a draft Victorian
Coastal Strategy
· To provide advice to the Minister
· To facilitate the operation of the Regional Coastal
Boards
· To monitor the development of Coastal Action Plans
· To coordinate the implementation of the Victorian
Coastal Strategy and Coastal Action Plans
· To prepare and publish guidelines
· To liaise with and encourage the cooperation of Government
departments, public authorities, municipal councils, industry, community
groups and persons and bodies involved in the planning, management
and use of the coast in furthering the objectives of the Act
· To provide opportunities for the public and interested
groups to be informed of and involved in the work of the Council
· To encourage the work of volunteers in using and conserving
coastal resources
· To give consideration to the needs of Aborigines and
other interested groups in relation to the coast.
