Community
and representative organisations play a key role in ensuring the
sustainable use of natural resources, identification of suitable
development and opportunities, and in the protection of environmental
and cultural features.
Communities
also contribute significantly to coastal planning and management
through active involvement and participation in local management
activities.
Many Council
web sites include listings of local community groups and further
information on community involvement can be found in Victoria's Biodiversity
Strategy. The Department of Sustainability and Environment also
administers an Effective
Community Engagement program. See

Volunteers Australia
